Historic Preservation

What happens when you rehab an over 100 year-old building in south St. Louis? Why, The Sinkhole of course! This one-story commercial renovation features new store front windows, new floors, a new bar and performing space and a complete rebuild of the front façade that restored it to it's original glory. A recording studio is spaced out and currently in the making.

The renovation of this 1886 factory building created a modern office space for our growing architectural firm. Killeen Studio acted as architect, developer, general contractor and employed historic tax credits to complete this project. The building was originally built by and home to the Lecoutour Bros Stair Mfg Co. In subsequent years 3015 Salena housed an ice cream cone company, a wooden heel manufacturing company, an aluminum siding company and the Continental Lithography Co. Killeen removed office wall partitions which had been installed after the Lecoutour Bros vacated the building. This step restored the floor plan to an open factory layout and gave the building a more spacious, studio feel.

This historic former mortuary is currently undergoing a conversion into a restaurant on the first floor and apartment spaces on the second floor. | 9,500 square feet (1st floor) | 14,000 square feet (2nd floor)

Location: Sidney Street, Benton Park Neighborhood, St.Louis, MO

Our design transforms the historic St. Agnes Church into a Banquet Hall, with a full interior renovation, addition of a catering facility, and an outdoor seating area. Since the interior space is open and airy, it is flexible for many different events and seating arrangements. The interior renovations would include new finishes and lighting and the addition of restrooms to accommodate a large event.  The exterior patio will serve as an outdoor reception area. Surrounded by trees, shrubs, fountains, and flowers, the patio will become a garden. St. Agnes already has a unique historical atmosphere and with a few changes and updates it will become a very optimal place for events.

Killeen Studio Architects designed the renovation of this large, Old English style building, as well as the restaurant addition completed in the summer of 2012. The guests rooms were revamped for aesthetic and structural improvements, and the existing dining space was expanded, becoming a multiple tenant restaurant and banquet complex. Killeen designed a brighter, more open lobby with public restrooms, fitness center, meeting rooms, large patio, and a revamped pool deck with a fire pit and cabana seating area. This project was designed to be eligible for state and federal historic tax credits.

Killeen Studio designed the conversion of this abandoned warehouse into a special event facility with float away doors and vaulted ceilings. Other additions included a large patio area, conference rooms and kitchen.

8000 SF second floor expansion of rapidly growing brewery, allowing client to double production space, bringing capacity to 24,000 barrels a year. The new space, which opened in August 2014, includes a frieght elevator and temperature-controlled storage area for wine barrels to age the brewery's beer.

Argyle Building Renovation

Killeen Studio Architects served as developer and designer for the Historic Renovation of this 1860s home in Benton Park. We respected the original architecture and detail but added a 2nd floor, master bath and closet for a more marketable home. | 1210 SF
